Abdullah al-Kamil, the father of the al-Kamili al-Hasani legacy, was a revered Sheikh of Bani Hashim. He stood at the crossroads of the two most important prophetic lineages in the Islamic West, serving as the connecting point between the current Alawite dynasty of Morocco and the ancient Idrisid dynasty, the founder of the future Kingdom of Morocco.
This intersection embodies the prophetic lineage that produced kings for the two honorable states of al-Kamili al-Hasani:
a) The founder of the first largest independent Islamic state in the West - the Idrisid dynasty and the future modern Morocco.
b) The Alaouite dynasty, which consolidated its pillars, ensuring the unity and stability of Morocco.
Imam Malik bin Anas had scholarly ties with Mawla Abdullah al-Kamil and his sons. The name Abdullah al-Kamil was given because both of his parents were from the Hashimi lineage (Banu Hashim, the aristocratic elite leading the Hejaz community, descendants of Prophet Muhammad ï·º).
His mother was Fatimah binti al-Hussein ibn Ali Abi Talib and Fatimah al-Zahra binti Rasulullah ï·º, while his father was Saidina Hasan Muthanna ibn al-Hasan as-Sibt ibn Ali Abi Talib and Fatimah al-Zahra binti Rasulullah ï·º. Children from such cousin marriages are typically known as Al-Mahd.
His mother, Fatimah binti al-Hussein, closely resembled her grandmother Fatimah al-Zahra in appearance and was highly knowledgeable in the science of Hadith.
Abdullah was renowned as the best of men, in terms of looks, manners, attitude, as well as his elegance, refinement, and generosity.
Abu al-Faraj narrates in Muqatil al-Talibeen that al-Hassan bin al-Hassan once sought the hand of one of his uncle al-Hussein’s daughters in marriage. Al-Hussein then said to him, "Choose, my son, the one you love the most—Fatimah or Sakina," but al-Hassan was too shy. Then al-Hussein said, "I choose to give you Fatimah, for she is the one who most resembles my mother, Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of God ï·º."
Musab al-Zubayri rightfully stated, "All goodness leads to Abdullah bin al-Hasan, and who is considered the best of people? Abdullah bin al-Hasan is that person."
There are varying opinions regarding his birth date. According to his son Musa, he was born in the year 75 Hijri. Others suggest his birth was around the year 70 Hijri, while the author of the book Al-Anwar mentions that he was born in the year 68 Hijri. In Muqatil al-Talibin, it is mentioned that Abdullah al-Kamil was born in the house of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of God ï·º, in the mosque.
Abdullah al-Kamil had twelve siblings, including three brothers: Hassan, Ibrahim, and Zainab. Zainab was married to Al-Walid bin Abdullah bin Marwan before they separated. Six of his other siblings were children of his father: Muhammad, Jaafar, Daoud, Fatimah, Umm al-Qasim, and Umm al-Qasim Koulthum.
Yahya bin al-Mughira al-Razi reported from Jarir: When Mughirah narrated from Abdullah bin al-Hasan, he said, "This is the true story."
Ibn Mo'in, Al-Nasa'i, and Abu Hatim trusted him. Abu Bakr bin Abi Khaithama said, "I have never seen any of our scholars honor anyone as they honored Abdullah bin Hassan bin Hassan."
Abdullah al-Kamil held a higher status than Umar bin Abdul-Aziz, who once said when presenting a need to him, "If there is a need, send it to me or write it, for I am ashamed if people see others at my door."
The great trial Abdullah al-Kamil faced was oppression by Abu Jaafar al-Mansur al-Abbasi, the second Abbasid Caliph, who imprisoned Abdullah al-Kamil and several of his relatives during the disappearance of Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyah. Abdullah al-Kamil remained in prison until he returned to Allah in the year 145 Hijri, shortly before the martyrdom of his aforementioned son.
