SHARIF AND HIS IJAZA

At a profoundly significant gathering in Fez, a city renowned for its rich heritage of knowledge and spirituality, Sharif Mohamed El Hassani granted a precious ijaza and led the recitation of hadith with seekers of knowledge from Lebanon, Egypt, the United States, Tunisia, Morocco, Norway, and Malaysia.

This special moment strengthens the unbroken chain of ilm sanad, bridging the legacy of knowledge with the spirit of renewal, and enlightening hearts across generations and borders.

Recently, Kazakh students journeyed to the esteemed city of Fez to meet Sharif Mohamed El Hasani and study hadith, reflecting the Islamic tradition that values sanad in learning. Their dedication mirrors that of Imam Bukhari, who traveled for a month to obtain a single authentic hadith. This unwavering commitment highlights the importance of sanad in ensuring the authenticity and integrity of knowledge.

The dedication of these Kazakh students in preserving this sacred chain of knowledge is truly admirable, linking them to a respected intellectual tradition and reinforcing their role in Islamic scholarship.

As Abdullah bin Mubarak wisely stated, “Sanad is part of religion; without it, anyone can say whatever they want.” Al-Hakim Abu Abdullah Al-Nisaburi, in his book Ma'rifat 'Ulum al-Hadith, underscores this by saying, “Sanad is part of religion. Without it and the effort to preserve it, the light of Islam will dim, and innovators may distort it. Indeed, knowledge without sanad becomes severed.” Ibn Mubarak also mentioned, “Seeking religious knowledge without sanad is like climbing onto a roof without a ladder.”

Reviving the study of hadith in Kazakhstan is crucial, especially with the rise of Quranists who reject hadith, potentially weakening the religion as many rulings stem from hadith.

As reported by Ahmad and Ibn Majah from al-Miqdam bin Ma'adikarib, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Soon, someone will recline comfortably on his couch, being informed of something from my words, and he will say: Between us and you is the Book of Allah. Whatever we find in it to be lawful, we will make lawful, and whatever we find to be unlawful, we will make unlawful. Beware, what the Prophet ﷺ has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden.”
